We’re in Chile again today, visiting Californian winemaking advisor Ken Bernards who’s working with one of my favorite varietals - EQ Syrah - along with pinot noir, cabernet and others at Matetic Vineyards, producing .

Itapua Beach in Salvador, Bahia, in Brazil’s Northeast. If their request pending before the US Department of Transportation is approved, which seems likely, then American Airlines will offer daily non-stop service to this city from Miami beginning this November.

A few days ago we wrote about the new routes that airlines have applied for with USDOT for service to Northern and Northeast Brazil, competing for the 21 newly available weekly frequencies. Since its application, Sprit has deferred its proposal for daily Manaus service until the next batch of frequencies become available in 2009.

Yesterday (July 29th), both American Airlines and Delta Airlines amended their proposals.

American’s revised application now proposes:

Miami-Salvador-Recife-Miami - Daily
Miami - Belo Horizonte (CNF) - 3x/week

Dropping one MIA-CNF frequency, AA is now requesting 10 frequencies from 11.

Delta’s revised application now proposes:

Atlanta-Manaus - Daily
Atlanta-Recife-Fortaleza-Atlanta - 4x/week

Withdrawing its Atlanta-Belo Horizonte (4x/week service), DL is now requesting 11 frequencies from 15.

It seems as though AA and DL may have discussed these changes, though as it appears so blatantly, it may well have been at DOT’s request. As AA and DL now are requesting 21 frequencies of 21 available, and with no other takers in line, American and Delta jointly filed a request that DOT immediately award the two airlines the routes and frequencies. Furthermore, and despite the routes each airline had already requested, the joint request states:

“Because this is not a contested matter requiring a comparative carrier-selection proceeding, American and Delta request that the frequency awards be non-city-pair specific (that is, from any point in the U.S. to any point in Brazil eligible for 2008 service…)” In other words, they are asking for non-city specific routes while also formally requesting specific routes in each of their individual applications. Not sure if the DOT will go for the free-for-all approach of non-specifc routes, as the agency is charged with promoting diverse and economically feasible air routes and services for the flying public.

Ultimately, it looks like AA and DL will be awarded the routes, most likely on the routes detailed above, particularly as there is no longer any competition between carriers. As proposed by AA and DL, American’s routes will begin Novermber 2nd, and Delta’s, around December 18-22.

Jos sanoisitte huomenna pomolle etta lahdette 300 paivan lomalle, mita sanoisi teidan pomo? Mina tein niin reilu vuosi sitten, ku ilmotin pomolleni etta lahden pidennetylle kesalomalle. Mun pomo toivotti hyvaa matkaa ja kysy viela etta palaanko samaan firmaan takas toihin. Kaikki ei varmasti ole yhta onnekkaita kun mina. Mutta suosittelen kaikille tallaista reissua, on sen verran mahtavaa ollut ja vaikka en “paasis” samaa tyopaikkaan takas, ei kaduttais yhtaan. Tassa on tullu pidettya 10 vuoden!! kesalomat putkeen :). Tuntuu aika hurjalta kun nain sita ajattelee…

Viime viikko meni taalla Sao Paulossa treenatessa (yllatys yllatys) ja uusia reitteja suunnitellessa. Kaytiin viime viikolla opettamassa BJJ:ta favelassa (eli slummissa). Yks tyyppi Demianin salilta tekee hyvantekevaisyytta nuorten parissa. Viime viikolla sitten han kutsui Demianin sinne vierailulle, mainittakoon etta Demian on vahintaan yhta tunnettu taalla kun Teemu Selanne Suomessa ja BJJ yhta suosittua kuin latka Suomessa. Joten voitte arvata etta pikku pojat oli todella innoissaan tasta, sitten kun bonuksena oli viela hassu gringo niin johan irtosi naurua.

Oli itsellekkin todella mahtava kokemus opettaa poikia, vaikka yhteista kielta ei ollut niin hyvin tultiin toimeen elekielella ja mun muutamalla sanalla portugalia. Poikien ikahaitari oli 4v aina 20v asti. Vastanotto oli taas todella lammin ja iloinen, lopuksi salin omistaja tarjosikin hiukan iltapalaa. Mainittakoon etta treenit loppu puol 12 yolla, kun kaikki oli niin innoissaan ja halus painia meidan kanssa ja ottaa kuvia. Suurin osa skideista oli todella huonoista oloista, kodittomia tai “koti” oli joku pelti hokkeli.

Gutty, joka olis siis sen salin omistaja, koittaa opettaa poikia selviamaan elamassa opettamaala kaytostapoja yms. Gutty sain samalla myos uuden vyon bjj:ssa ja oli todella liikuttunut kun vyo myonnettiin sen omalla salilla. Myos monet pojista itkivat liikutuksesta kun opettaja sain uuden vyon. Toivottavasti pojat loytaa jonkinlaista onnea/suuntaa elamalle bjj kautta.


Jatkon suhteen ei ole viela muita sunnitelmia kuin, etta Riossa pitaa olla 28.9 ku kaveri tulee sinne. Tama aika tassa vaissa todennakoisesti menee levatessa, silla riossa on tarkoitus treenaa lisaa. Kovasti tekis mieli kiertaa vahan karibiaa, mutta taitaa kelit olla hiukan huonot siela talla hetkella.

We witness the architectural brilliance of past and modern era at the same time. Santiago, apart from being a very modern city, also showcases the rich cultural heritage of Chile.

My visit to Chiloé Island was like visiting Heaven. It really felt as if we were in a land of fairy tales. The land of penguins, breathtaking beaches and heavenly coastal forests … definitely out of this world!
The varied geography of Chile, ranging from desert to Mediterranean sea, and from snow to capped mountains, makes the place unique! No holidaymaker can ask for more! The rich flora and fauna are an integral part of the landscape and add to its natural charm. The cultural richness of the place can be witnessed all over. Anyone visiting Chile will definitely fall in love with it.

Moi

Jai sitten yksi viikko valista, no eipa silloin mitaan erikoista tapahtunutkaan.

Viimeset 2vk on mennyt yllattaen kovasti treenatessa. Valmentajalla oli matsi ja voitti viela sen. Laskeskelin tossa eilen hiukan treeneja ja 2vk aikana tuli 21 treenia ja lepasin kuitenkin 3pv. Ei ihme etta oli paikat vahan jumissa. Tuleva viikko treenataan kevyesti ja valmistaudutaan ens vkl kisoihin.

Olin viela kaiken kukkuraks hiukan kipea menna viikolla, mutta nyt on kaikki kondiksessa. Huomenna on laakarintarkastus kisoja varten, sitten treenia ja muuta erikoista ohjelmaa ei olekkaan tulevalle viikolle. Kuviakaan ei ole tullut rapsittya, mutta koitan lisailla noita vanhoja kuvi. On vaan aika hidas taa yhteys, niin ei riita karsivallisyys :).

Paivittelen taas blogia kun jotain tapahtuu.
